Jerry Jones: Do Not Expect Ezekiel to be Disciplined by NFL
Owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones does not think the NFL will discipline Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for what the running back did during an incident that involved security guards at a music festival in Las Vegas last weekend.
Jones said on Thursday that the main thing was he did not see anything that needs supporting when it comes to Elliott’s status with the Cowboys as that has not been impacted at all. Jones added that he did not believe the incident would have any consequences for the team.
Elliott appeared on a video from a cellphone that TMZ released. In the video, Elliott is seen confronting a member of the security at the event and uses his body to push the security guard backward until the guard fell.
For a brief period, authorities detained Elliott early Sunday at the Electric Daisy Carnival that was being held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Police handcuffed the Dallas running back when they detained him, but did not arrest Elliott.
An attorney representing Elliott, Frank Salzano called what happened an overreaction by security personnel after they saw Elliott and his girlfriend arguing.
Following an organized activity by the Cowboys on Wednesday, Elliott did not talk to reporters.
Elliott was suspended for six games by the NFL for violating the personal conduct policy of the league in 2017 after Elliott was accused in 2016 of having committed domestic violence by an ex-girlfriend.
The Dallas executive vice president Stephen Jones indicated earlier in the week that the incident in Las Vegas would not have an impact on the negotiations with Elliott related to a contract extension.
Elliott has a contract with Dallas through the 2020 NFL season after the running back had his option picked up by the Cowboys for the final year for more than $9 million.
