Justin Fields Set To Enter Uncertain Quarterback Market

Despite his teammates stumping for him to remain, quarterback Justin Fields appears destined to leave the Chicago Bears.

Where he will end up, though, is anybody’s guess. The Bears will likely use the No.1 pick to take Caleb Williams in the draft. Considering general manager Ryan Poles has likened Williams to Patrick Mahomes, Fields would be relegated if he stayed in Chicago.

Poles has also stated his desire to find a trade for Justin Fields ‘quickly’ if it comes to that. However with Atlanta signing Kirk Cousins and Pittsburgh signing Russell Wilson, the market for him is limited.

Veteran corner Jaylon Johnson says the locker room would prefer Justin Fields to stay.

“We know the business that we’re in,” he said.

“So I feel like it wouldn’t be mature of us as a locker room not to rally together in spite of having Justin leave.

“I know what it would do to keep him here. I know how we would feel with him here,” he said.

“We’ll all have our opinions, our emotions, but as far as the locker room staying together, I think we have the right guys in the locker room to keep everything together, to keep us together.

“We’re all here to win ballgames,” Johnson said. “So I don’t think it’s about necessarily our feelings or, ‘Oh, well, you did this.’ We’re all here to win games. So whoever Poles brings in, whoever the staff brings in to help us win games, that’s who we’re going to rock with.”

It looks as if the locker room won’t get its wish, with Poles talking about drafting Williamson and trading Fields weeks ago.

“There’re pieces that are similar,” he said of the comparison between Mahomes and Williamson.

“Obviously the one that stands out to everyone is just different arm angles. That’s a unique trait. Not a lot of guys can do that.”

“If we go down that road, I want to do right by Justin as well,” Poles said. “No one wants to live in gray. I know that’s uncomfortable. I wouldn’t want to be in that situation either. So, we’ll gather the information. We’ll move as quickly as possible.”
