Kevin Durant ‘Would Love To Stick It Out’ With The Thunder For His Entire Career
With the news breaking of superstar Kevin Durant set to miss the rest of the season with a persistent foot injury that’ll require surgery, the speculation has started to run rampant about the reigning NBA MVP’s future. Durant will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2016 and will have plenty of suitors looking to pay for his services.
Even though Durant still has one more season under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, there’s a decent chance he could land elsewhere once finally able to control his own fate in NBA free agency. Durant recently addressed the speculation and his love for Oklahoma City in an interview with Revolt TV (transcription via SB Nation):
“I love it here, man,” Durant told Revolt TV in a recent interview. “I love my teammates, I love the city, I don’t really think about anywhere else.
“I hear it all the time, don’t get me wrong, and once you hear it you’re kind of like –,” Durant trailed off as he looked up, thinking. “But for me, I love staying in the moment, and I’m one of those guys that would love to stick it out with one team my whole career.”
At this point in time, it is easy for Durant to make a statement like this with his fate up in the air. Many have also started to speculate about whether Durant will be traded before next season’s NBA trade deadline after the recent emergence of teammate Russell Westbrook as a legitimate superstar and MVP candidate in his own right.
If the team is unsure of Durant’s intentions with free agency looming in the summer of 2016, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility the team trades Durant in order to get something in return before he leaves the team with nothing.
Once Durant does hit the free agent market, the superstar will be pursued by a number of different teams with the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers arguably at the top of the list of potential suitors.
