Klay Thompson Questionable For NBA Finals Game 2 on Sunday
Sharpshooting guard Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors is optimistic he can recover enough from the his ankle sprain so he can suit up and play in Game 2 of the best of seven NBA Finals on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Warriors have listed Thompson on their injury report as questionable and the guard continues to experience some stiffness and swelling as of Saturday evening. After the team’s practice on Saturday, Thompson said he was not getting around much, but is optimistic about his chances to play.
Thompson hurt his ankle during Game 1 when JR Smith of the Cavaliers inadvertently undercut Thompson’s leg when attempting to steal a pass. Thompson had to briefly leave the game for treatment in the team’s locker room, but returned to play soon after.
Thompson finished Game 1 with 24 points hitting 8 of his 16 field goals attempting including 5 of his 10 from 3-point territory. The sharpshooter, who is 6-foot-7, said he plans to play Sunday, but called his ankle sore.
Thompson added that each time he sees the replay he is pissed off. He said Smith did not intentionally try to hurt him and was remorseful following the play.
Thompson did not practice much Saturday as he walked around the arena noticeably limping. He added that he is trying to keep the ankle loose and do everything possible to minimize the amount of swelling there is so he can attempt to play.
If Thompson cannot play, the Warriors will likely start Nick Young in his place.
Teammate Stephen Curry said that from his perspective it appeared Klay was looking good to play and remained upbeat about his chances.
Warriors guard/forward Andre Iguodala, who has missed the last five games due to a lateral leg contusion in his left leg has been listed as doubtful for Game 2 Sunday and did not take part in Saturday’s practice.
The team has the mindset at this point that the versatile player will not return during the first two games of the series.
When asked about the injury situation for the Warriors, Cavaliers superstar LeBron James said the Warriors were great with Thompson and Iguodala and were still great when they are injured, so people should not worry too much about that.
