Knicks Discussing Possible Iman Shumpert Trade
After getting off to a disappointing 3-4 start, the New York Knicks appear to be looking to shake things up and are already discussing several possible trades – all of which involve guard Iman Shumpert.
While no particular deal is imminent, league sources say the Knicks have been shopping Shumpert to several interested NBA teams this week, including the Denver Nuggets, according to ESPN.com. Reportedly, the Knicks are looking to bolster their injury-depleted frontcourt – which is currently missing Tyson Chandler – and are eyeing Denver’s Kenneth Faried in one potential deal for Shumpert.
However, according to some sources – including Yahoo! Sports – Faried’s representatives insist he’s not headed to New York. Still, talks are ongoing as the Knicks continue to shop Shumpert.
“I heard some rumors,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said Wednesday night. “It’s part of our business. I always try to tell young players if your name is being floated out there, that’s a good thing. It means somebody wants you.”
The Knicks are certainly hoping that someone wants Shumpert, whom they consider to be a valuable defensive specialist. If New York can’t find a taker soon, it may need to test the free agent market to fill the frontcourt void, as Kenyon Martin and Amar’e Stoudemire are currently on minute restrictions due to injuries.
Of course, things won’t get any easier for the short-handed Knicks tonight as they take on the Dwight Howard-led Houston Rockets. In his first nine games in Houston – which is 5-4 entering tonight’s match-up – Howard has impressed, averaging 18.2 points and 14.9 rebounds. It’s likely he’ll have his way in the paint against the Knicks as well.
Look for the Rockets to cover -3.5 points, even on the road tonight. And be sure to check back for more news involving a possible Iman Shumpert trade.
