Knicks Reportedly Won’t Fire Head Coach Jeff Hornacek

The New York Knicks are once again a team with seemingly no direction. It has been one thing after another for the Knicks this season, and although the team is nowhere near where they want to be, another head coach is not in the plans for the New York franchise.

According to Mark Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks will not be firing head coach Jeff Hornacek after the season:

Despite the Knicks’ brutal record and growing input of Phil Jackson, who reversed the head coach’s offense, Jeff Hornacek’s job is safe, according to an NBA source.

Although Hornacek is reportedly not in danger of losing his job, there’s a good chance quite a few players on the current squad will not be returning. Star point guard Derrick Rose is the major question mark for the Knicks with the veteran set to become a free agent and all signs pointing to a parting of the ways after only one season.

Another interesting angle in New York is Phil Jackson’s persistence in implementing the triangle offense. Jackson’s attempt to get the offense hasn’t worked since he joined the team as president, but he’s reluctant to give up hope even though it seems as though it just won’t work in today’s NBA.

The Knicks brass may focus on getting the right players to try and run the triangle offense in during the NBA offseason. Apparently, Jackson still believes Hornacek is the man for the job in New York, but he may be on a short leash if early success isn’t seen in the 2017-18 NBA season.
