Kyrie Irving Could Return To Barclays Center March 13

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving could resume playing home games as soon as March 13, if everything goes to plan.

Kyrie Irving has been limited to playing road games due to a New York City mandate requiring vaccinated status to enter sports venues.

According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, that rule could be changed by March 7. However, it’s not set in stone. 

The rule change is dependent on Covid case numbers continuing to decrease.

If the mandate changes on March 7, allowing unvaccinated people into venues, the next game Brooklyn plays at home after that is on March 13 against the Knicks. Although Mayor Adams is resisting the populist urge to simply let Kyrie Irving play.

“Listen, I want Kyrie on the court. I would do anything to get that ring. So badly, I want it. But there’s so much at stake here. And I spoke with the owner of the team. We want to find a way to get Kyrie on the court, but this is a bigger issue,” Adams said in the interview. “I can’t have my city closed down again. It would send the wrong message just to have an exception for one player when we’re telling countless number of New York City employees, ‘If you don’t follow the rules, you won’t be able to be employed.'”

“Just waiting to see how it all plays out,” Nets coach Steve Nash said before the game Monday against the Toronto Raptors. 

“It’s not my domain to get involved in the policies and mandates, so I’ll just wait patiently and hopefully we’ll get some good news at some point.”
