Lakers Once Again Have Lofty Standards Of Champions

The Los Angeles Lakers are defending NBA champions and remain undefeated so far this season. They’ve started the season with a franchise-best 8 – 0 record on the road.

They just beat Milwaukee, the number 2 ranked offense 113 – 106, holding them below their 120 point per game average.

They have a superstar in Anthony Davis who is developing previously untapped elements of his game. As well as that, LeBron James just scored a season-high 34 points.

However, from the comments coming out of the Los Angeles Lakers, you wouldn’t guess any of that.

“Well, we have to be better,” coach Frank Vogel said after the Bucks win.

“We didn’t play our best basketball game tonight.”

Despite playing a big role in the late victory, Anthony Davis was left equally unsatisfied. Three of his six assists came in crunch time, the most he’s ever provided late in a game.

However, he missed 10 of his 18 shots, and scored less than 20 points for the fifth straight game.

“Right now, to be hard on myself, man, I think I suck right now,” Davis said.

“I’m not making shots. I’m not making free throws. But I think tonight my aggressiveness, just being a [post-up threat] and getting to the paint, allowed guys to get open.”

Luckily for Davis, LeBron James stepped up and scored the points Los Angeles needed.

“He’s continuing to grow every single game. Every single film session, we kind of break those things down — what he sees on the floor,” James said of Davis’ passing.

“Tonight was another example of him just seeing the other side of the floor and putting the ball on time, on target and guys knocking it down.”

“I put a lot of pressure on myself to be a better basketball player every game, and that’s what I’m gonna continue to do,” Davis added.

The Lakers aren’t underdogs anymore. They’re the reigning champions after a ten year drought. From the sounds of it, they intend to retain the title this year.
