MLB News And Rumors: Wilson to Tigers? and Cano Saga Continues

It is that time of year when there is not MLB baseball being played but behind the scenes the league is extremely active. With plenty of positions needing filled on top tier teams and a few big names in the free agency the rumor mill is naturally churning. Here are three big stories form the MLB.

Brian Wilson to Close for Tigers?

MLB News And Rumors: Wilson to Tigers? and Cano Saga Continues, Wilson

It is not secret that the Detroit Tigers spent a lot of time looking for a closer last year but never ended up signing one.  This year the rumors are similar, except it seems the Tigers are very very interested in Brian Wilson.

According to the Detroit News, The Tigers are looking to secure a deal with Wilson and bring him on as a closer.

The Tigers are clearly grooming Bruce Rondon to be their eventual closer, but a short term contract with Wilson would fill the position and could work out favorably for both sides. Wilson would be given the chance to prove he is still worth big money by playing with a top tier team and the Tigers get the temporary solution to their closing pitcher position that they want.

Please note that no official deal has been struck between the two sides, so this is all simply speculation.

Cano Is Still Top Free Agency Prize

MLB News And Rumors: Wilson to Tigers? and Cano Saga Continues, Cano

All the commotion of the New York Yankees being close to a deal with Cano a couple weeks ago seems to be false as sources are claiming that a deal between the two sides is not even close let alone on the table.

Cano is asking for a 10-year, $300 million deal, which would keep him on the Yankees payroll into his 40s. The Yanks are obviously hesitant. Cano visited with the New York Mets a few days ago, but most believe that was simply a ploy by Cano to get the Yanks to cave on his demands.

Now rumors are swirling that the Yankees have began the search for Cano’s replacement. Whatever the case, this saga is clearly not over yet.
