MLB Playoff Picture As Of Now Compared To Futures

1

The MLB playoff picture is beginning to take shape and teams are beginning to jockey for coveted Wild Card positions.

At the moment in the AL, the Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals and Houston Astros sit atop their respective divisions. If the playoffs were to start today, these teams would get into the playoff.

The Astros have the lowest odds in the futures as far as teams that currently sit atop their division go. Houston has the ninth best odds at winning the World Series according to Bovada. The Blue Jays and Royals sit atop the odds to win it all.

As far as the Wildcard standings go in the AL, the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers are clinging to those spots. The New York Yankees have a 3.5 to 4 game padding between themselves and other teams in fighting positions for the Wildcard Spot. The Rangers are in a tougher spot.

Both the LA Angels and Minnesota Twins are hot on the Rangers heels, only .5 games behind as the AL Wildcard race is beginning to look like it may come down to the final few games of the season as to who gets the spot.

In the NL, the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets and LA Dodgers sit atop their divisions. The Cardinals, Mets and Dodgers also sit behind the Royals and Blue Jays in the World Series future odds in that order.

The Wildcard picture in the NL is a bit clearer than the AL. Both the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates have built significant padding between themselves and the other teams fighting for their currently held Wildcard spots. However, the San Francisco Giants may have just received a shot of adrenaline after beating the Cubs in a three-game series. They sit 5.5 wins away from a Wildcard spot.
