NBA Central Update

Let’s be honest, not a lot of people’s minds are on basketball today.  From what I understand there are two important games going on today in some other sport. None-the-less, other sports do exist today, so I am here to give you a quick update on what has been going on in the NBA Central division. Here is a quick update of the NBA Central teams that are currently ranked in the NBA.

Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are the No.1 team in the NBA right now.  According to the numbers, they are even better than the Miami Heat.

I thought their last game against the LA Clippers, the No.1 team in the Pacific division and No.4 team in the Western Conference, was going to be a bit closer, despite the -9 point spread favoring the Pacers. I was wrong, and the above 360 windmill dunk that Paul George performed during the game is the ultimate symbol to what the Pacers are doing right now–dominating.

The Pacers do not play again until Monday when they take on the Clippers Pacific division rivals the Golden State Warriors. BetOnline has Golden State favored by -1 point right now (probably because of the Warriors home court advantage), and the Warriors are a pretty solid team, No.6 in the Western Conference. However, I do not think they are good enough to derail the Pacers right now.

Chicago Bulls

NBA1

The Bulls should be going through a nightmare situation right now. Derrick Rose is again likely out for the season with a meniscus tear and general manager Gar Forman traded star player Luol Deng to the Cleveland Cavaliers essentially for cap space much to the chagrin of the very vocal Chicago Bulls squad.

By all accounts they should be tanking, but they aren’t. Since they trade, they have done the exact opposite. The Bulls are 7-3 on their last ten games.

It is pretty clear that management wants to move the team into a rebuilding stage.  Rumors are swirling that Taj Gibson and Kirk Hinrich will be the next to leave Chicago in order to make room for a possible acquisition during the offseason.  Not to mention the fact that I am sure that their are some people in charge in Chicago hoping for the Bulls to lose in order to set them up better in the draft.

Things are likely to get worse in Chicago pretty soon but for now Bulls fans can rest easy knowing their team is still winning games.

Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavs and Milwaukee Bucks

NBA2

I am lumping these three teams together, though I suppose it is really not fair for the Detroit Pistons and Cavs to be lumped together with the Bucks who are having a disastrous season, after making a surprise playoff run last year. The Bucks have a record of 7-32, making them the worst team in the NBA.

Meanwhile, the Pistons and Cavs are in a bit of a race for the No.7 seeds and for third place in the Central division.  It is clear that neither of these teams are quite ready to seriously contend for a title, though. The Cavs moved in the right direction acquiring Luol Deng from the Bulls. However, when you talk about the Pistons and Cavs it is usually in a “what they need to do”  context. In other words, they have a lot of work to do still.
