NBA Free Agency: Kevin Love Agrees To Re-Sign With Cleveland Cavaliers
NBA free agency is in full swing with some of the biggest names available already agreeing to long-term deals. One of the big-name players to let his intentions be known on Wednesday is Kevin Love.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Love has decided to re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a long-term deal:
Kevin Love is re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he announced Wednesday.
Love has agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract with the team, sources said.
No player in the league has been surrounded by more speculation over the last few years than Love. Rumors have constantly linked Love to the Los Angeles Lakers with many believing it would be inevitable that the All-Star would head back to the City of Angels.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, Love stuck to his word and informed the Cavaliers of his intention to re-sign with the team after opting out of his deal. Once NBA free agency opened on Tuesday night, news about Love scheduling a meeting with Los Angeles was reported. Obviously, that meeting won’t be happening and his future in Cleveland remains secure.
Along with the Cavaliers set to re-sign Love, the team is also reportedly on the verge of a long-term agreement with Tristan Thompson. The new deal for Thompson is said to reach as much as $80 million.
With all the talk of the Cavaliers being high on Thompson after an impressive postseason, Love re-signing seemed less likely. Obviously, Cleveland have found a way to bring in both players or at least are willing to pay the money in the luxury tax.
Needless to say, the Cavaliers have done what they set out to do during free agency and adding any other pieces to the puzzle would be a bonus.
