NBA Rumors: Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving Unhappy In Cleveland
The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 41-17. LeBron James and company will more than likely clinch the top seed in the conference unless the Toronto Raptors (39-19) make up some ground in the coming weeks.
Although the Cavaliers remain the team to beat in the East, Cleveland has its fair share of problems moving forward. Not only may the Cavaliers be a step or two behind arguably the two best teams in the league in the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs, but Kyrie Irving may no longer be happy with his current situation in Cleveland.
According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Irving may want to change teams (transcription via Fansided’s Josh Hill):
“Dating back to last year, I’ve been told that Kyrie Irving ain’t too happy being in Cleveland. The situation is not ideal for him. I don’t know the particulars, I haven’t spoken to him personally. It’s something that I’ve been hearing for months; that under ideal circumstances he would prefer to be someplace other than Cleveland.â€
The Warriors are the clear favorite to come out on top in the NBA this season with 5/8 odds (via Sportsbook.ag) to win it all. Golden State is aiming at making history this year as they attempt to eclipse Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls for the best record in league history (72-10).
Cleveland is still considered to be a legitimate title contender along with the Spurs at 4/1 odds. The Cavaliers haven’t been ruled out of contention, but will have an uphill battle from here on out with many believing it’s a foregone conclusion that the Warriors win for a second straight year.
If the Cavaliers fail to win a title this season, Cleveland may make some drastic changes. Although Irving is considered to be the future of the franchise, the point guard may push for a trade.
