NBA Rumors: Clippers Won’t Have To Give Up A Star In Trade For Carmelo Anthony
The Los Angeles Clippers are at point where the future is uncertain. As talented as the team is with Doc Rivers calling the shots on the sidelines, they have yet to live up to expectations while the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Cleveland Cavaliers are the only teams getting real title-contender consideration.
With that being said, the team may be forced into making a deal before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 23 in order to salvage the team as currently constructed. Carmelo Anthony, who has been in the headlines on a daily basis, appears to be there for the taking and it won’t cost the Clippers a star in return.
The New York Knicks have been making trade calls all around the league with Anthony being a player they want to move on from. Anthony, however, has a no-trade clause making things difficult, but may consider the Clippers, especially with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin staying in Los Angeles, via ESPN:
The New York Knicks have let the Clippers know that they are open to trading Carmelo Anthony to Los Angeles without getting back Chris Paul, Blake Griffin or DeAndre Jordan, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
At this point in the 2016-17 NBA season, the Knicks aren’t going anywhere. The mini-rebuild with Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings, Courtney Lee, and Joakim Noah didn’t work. New York is seven games under .500 with hopes of a playoff berth fading.
Moving Anthony and his enormous contract to the Clippers seems like a smart move for both teams. Los Angeles may get the boost needed to contend while the Knicks get the chance to move on while building around Rose and Kristaps Porzingis moving forward.
