NBA Rumors: Derrick Rose Receiving Interest From Cavs, Lakers, & Bulls
At one point in his NBA career, point guard Derrick Rose was expected to be the next big thing in the league. Rose won the NBA MVP award back in 2011 and put his elite status up there with LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
Unfortunately for Rose, knee injuries have become a persistent problem, and he has gone from heralded superstar to a player looking for a job. At 28, 29 in October, Rose is an unrestricted free agent while into the free agency process and has only just received interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers after they’ve seemingly exhausted all their options.
According to Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Cavs are working on signing Rose to a one-year deal:
Free-agent point guard Derrick Rose is in serious talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the defending Eastern Conference champions on a one-year contract, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
Along with the Cavs looking to bolster their backcourt with the addition of the veteran point guard, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Rose coming in as a mentor to rookie Lonzo Ball, via ESPN:
While those talks continue, Rose is also meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, sources told ESPN’s Chris Haynes and Ramona Shelburne.
The Cavs and Lakers aren’t the only teams expressing interest in Rose. Apparently, his former team the Chicago Bulls are also kicking around the idea of bringing back the one-time MVP, according to Sam Amick of USA Today:
Derrrick Rose likely to pick team this weekend, I'm told. Cavs, Lakers, reported, but talks w/ his agent, BJ Armstrong, & Bulls too.

After flirting with the idea of potentially signing with either the Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks or the New York Knicks, Rose appears to have his options. Although Rose won’t be signing a long-term deal, he’s got a chance to potentially earn a long-term deal in Los Angeles, return to his beloved Bulls or go for a title playing alongside LeBron James in Cleveland.
