NBA Rumors: Derrick Rose Wants To Re-Sign With The Knicks
The New York Knicks remain one of the league’s worst teams with seemingly no direction even with NBA legend Phil Jackson running the show in the Big Apple.
As the Knicks get their offseason underway, there’s been a lot of questions about the futures of two of the team’s star players in Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose. By all accounts, Anthony will be traded at some point this summer while Rose looks for another job in free agency.
All signs pointed to Rose wanting to leave New York for greener pastures, but now that no longer seems to be the case. It appears Rose may be fully aware of his lack of interest around the league and wants to stay in New York, as his agent B.J. Armstrong told Bleacher Report:
“Derrick loves New York and wants to be there,” Rose’s agent, B.J. Armstrong, told Bleacher Report recently. “We’ve expressed that to them and been very consistent about it. Whether it happens is on them; all we can do is be clear.”
If Rose truly wants to stay with the Knicks, the question now is whether the feeling is mutual. It seemed as though once the season came to an end that a parting of the ways was inevitable, but now maybe there’s hope for an extended stay for Rose if Jackson is willing to sign him to a contract.
Over the last couple of months, there has been speculation about the Minnesota Timberwolves potentially showing interest in the former NBA MVP once he hits free agency next month. The Timberwolves have been trying to part ways with Ricky Rubio for quite some time while Rose may greatly benefit from a reunion with Tom Thibodeau.
Anything can happen between now and when a contract needs to be signed, but it’s possible Rose’s time in New York isn’t over just yet.
