NBA Rumors: T’Wolves Express Interest In Trading For Knicks PG Derrick Rose
It hasn’t even been one full season for Derrick Rose in a New York Knicks uniform, and the former NBA MVP is already potentially on the move once again. The Minnesota Timberwolves appear to be interested in Rose setting up a potential reunion with his former Chicago Bulls head coach, Tom Thibodeau.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks were contacted by Timberwolves with Thibodeau’s team expressing interest in the veteran point guard:
The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached out to the Knicks recently to discuss potential trades for New York point guard Derrick Rose, sources told ESPN.
The Timberwolves have been as active as any team in the league over the last few weeks as Thibodeau continues to try and right the ship for Minnesota in his first season. Minnesota has been linked to a number of different players including Iman Shumpert, Reggie Jackson, and now Rose.
If the rumors surrounding the team’s interest in Rose are true, it will more than likely mark the end of Ricky Rubio’s time in Minnesota. The Spanish import has never actually lived up to expectations with the Timberwolves, and the team has seemingly been active in trying to move him the last couple of years.
As for Rose, all signs have been leading to a divorce with the Knicks. Rose will become an unrestricted free agent this summer with New York likely to pass on re-signing him. If he can reconnect with Thibodeau and find some success in Minnesota as a rental, the Timberwolves might have a point guard to help mentor Kris Dunn in the years to come while also adding another scorer to an already talented young team led by Karl-Anthony Towns.
