76ers guard Markelle Fultz’s shooting woes may be over
It has been a long and arduous road for the Philadelphia 76ers second-year point guard Markelle Fultz in making his way back from a shoulder injury that hampered much of his rookie campaign.
Within that, he had lost his shooting stroke that put him into a tough situation of having to restructure how he shot the ball entirely. Fultz finally appears to be getting back to what he had prior to his shoulder injury as he knocked down his first career 3-pointer during Thursday’s win over the Chicago Bulls, according to Malika Andrews of ESPN.
Just months removed from a season plagued by a much-scrutinized missing jumper, 76ers guard Markelle Fultz checked one box Thursday on the path back to regain the scoring touch he showed in college: He drained his first career 3-pointer.
It was one of the smooth-looking shots for Fultz as he pulled up from down in front of Bulls guard Zach LaVine to nail a 3-pointer from the right wing. Unlike many of his previous shots from outside the paint, there didn’t appear to be any hitches or awkward releases.
Instead, it was a shot taken in rhythm that the fans cheered him in recognition of the difficult process he has gone through. It has been a continuous uphill battle as he works toward getting back the shooting form and outside touch that he previously had prior to the injury.
Fultz has gone past that minor hurdle to where he can begin to shoot the ball with even more confidence from outside the paint. This could be the first of many this season as he builds on his growing confidence with his shooting touch.
