76ers shutdown Paul George for the rest of the season

The Philadelphia 76ers will be without star forward Paul George for the rest of the regular season after he received injections in his left adductor muscle and left knee.

George has been dealing with lingering health issues throughout the season that have forced him to miss significant playing time.

Over the last month, he has been playing through goin, finger and knee problems. The 34-year-old reportedly received painkiller injections for five consecutive games before the All-Star break.

It has been nothing short of a disappointing first year with the 76ers for George, as he averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 43.0 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from beyond the arc in 41 games.

He struggled to find his footing at any point in the season as he dealt with lingering injuries throughout. He missed the first five games of the year due to hyperextending his left knee in the preseason.

George followed that by hyperextending the same knee in November. He injured his left pinkie in January and recently missed time due to left groin soreness.

He is in the first year of his four-year, $212 million max deal. The 76ers are on the outside looking into the play-in seeding, sitting six games behind the Miami Heat for the 10th overall spot.

Philadelphia is already dealing with star big man Joel Embiid being out for the rest of the year due to a knee injury. All that could lead to an offseason ahead of much change.
