Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo has ‘no timetable’ for return

The Milwaukee Bucks are without star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo after he suffered a calf strain last week.

It was initially believed the two-time league MVP would miss four to six weeks after an MRI last Friday determined he had a calf or soleus strain in his right leg. However, head coach Doc Rivers said he wouldn’t put a timetable on his star’s return.

“There’s really no timetable,” Rivers said via ESPN.

Antetokounmpo had tried to play through the injury, but knew immediately that it would force him to miss significant time.

“I felt like I couldn’t explode,” Antetokounmpo said after Friday’s 102-100 loss to the Denver Nuggets. “I could jog. I couldn’t get on my toes, so I was kind of jogging on my heel the majority of the game. I didn’t have the same explosiveness, but I still felt like I could help. At the end, when it popped, I had to get out. I couldn’t walk.”

It has been an injury-plagued season for Antetokounmpo, who missed eight games last month due to a right calf strain. These types of ailments have been common for him in recent years, as he missed the 2024 playoffs and the 2025 All-Star Game due to left calf strains.
