Bucks make shocking decision on Cam Thomas’ future
At this point in the 2025-26 NBA season, it is anyone’s guess what the Milwaukee Bucks are doing to finish out this forgettable year, as the team’s front-office decisions continue to make little sense, especially given the uncertain future of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
On Monday, the Bucks made another move that left many in the NBA scratching their heads, waiving veteran guard Cam Thomas, according to Jamal Collier of ESPN.
The Milwaukee Bucks waived guard Cam Thomas on Monday night, less than two months after signing him, to convert the two-way contract of forward Pete Nance into a standard NBA contract.
After the Brooklyn Nets waived Thomas after failing to find a trade partner ahead of the NBA trade deadline in early February, the talented scorer didn’t take long to make his decision as a free agent, agreeing to a deal with the Bucks to join forces with Antetokounmpo and Myles Turner in Milwaukee.

Thomas showed his scoring skills quickly, lighting up the scoreboard for 34 points off the bench in only his second game with the team, which earned high praise from head coach Doc Rivers.
“I’ve had Jamal Crawford. I had Lou Williams,” Rivers said. “And now, I have Cam Thomas.”
That’s a pretty select company for Thomas, with Rivers putting him in the same category as two of the best sixth men in NBA history.
With Thomas becoming a free agent once again, it remains to be seen what his future holds in the NBA, but one thing is for certain: teams can always use a scorer of his caliber.
Unfortunately for Thomas, if he signs with another team this season, he’ll be ineligible to play in the NBA playoffs because it will be beyond the March 1 deadline.
That said, he’ll likely wait until the summer unless he’s anxious to get back on the floor.
