Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo open to playing elsewhere
As the Milwaukee Bucks head into the NBA offseason after another disappointing playoff exit, the franchise could see star Giannis Antetokounmpo push for a move elsewhere.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the two-time league MVP is open about potentially playing elsewhere long-term for the first time. Although no decision has been made, Antetokounmpo can play for another organization if he so chooses.
Since winning the NBA title in 2021, the Bucks have experienced three straight playoff exits in the first round. Milwaukee hasn’t shown any progress toward competing for another championship.
Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo continues to put up MVP-caliber numbers over the last few seasons. He is coming off one of his best campaigns, averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists while shooting 60 percent from the floor.
It marked his second consecutive season averaging at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists while shooting 60 percent from the floor. No other player has accomplished that feat even once.
Antetokounmpo is entering the first year of his three-year, $175.3 million extension with a $62.7 million player option for the 2027-28 season. This leaves the Bucks in a challenging position, as it has become abundantly clear that the former NBA Finals MVP is seriously considering moving on.

If Antetokounmpo chooses to play elsewhere, several teams will line up to acquire him. He is in the prime of his career and is established as one of the league’s best players.
Much more will be revealed about this, which could be another seismic shift in the NBA, in the coming weeks.
