Derrick Rose could return to Chicago Bulls in four to six weeks
The Chicago Bulls suffered a devastating blow earlier this week with the news breaking about former MVP Derrick Rose requiring surgery on his right knee once again. Rose has been able to stay healthy this season and has helped lead a very talented Bulls squad as a result, but the knee problems continue for the 26-year-old point guard.
Many believed Rose’s season was over once the news broke that he’d need another knee surgery. Fortunately for the Bulls, Rose might be able to return this season, according to Jon Greenberg of ESPN Chicago:
Derrick Rose’s knee surgery was successful, and the Bulls guard should be cleared to return to the team in four to six weeks, general manager Gar Forman said Friday.
As of right now, the Bulls are trying to keep up with LeBron James’ red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers. With the win over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, the Cavs are now a half game ahead of the Bulls in the Central Division with no signs of slowing down.
Chicago has played fairly mediocre basketball as of late winning six of their last 10 games. All-Stars Jimmy Butler and Pau Gasol have had breakout seasons this year, but the absence of Rose over the next month and a half, or perhaps the rest of the season, could prove costly down the stretch.
With Rose on the shelf, veterans Aaron Brooks and Kirk Hinrich will shoulder the load at the point guard position. According to Real GM, free agent Nate Robinson has received some interest from Chicago:
The Chicago Bulls have held exploratory conversations with free agent guard Nate Robinson as a potential roster addition, league sources told RealGM.
Robinson would bring some depth on the bench as the Bulls try to make a run with the postseason right around the corner. Robinson played well for the Bulls in the playoffs a few years ago when rose was done for the year.
The Bulls are currently in the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and would face the Washington Wizards in the first round if the playoffs started today. The Cavs, Toronto Raptors and conference-leading Atlanta Hawks sit ahead of the Bulls.
