Griffin Confident of Situation Regarding Battery Charges
Last month, Los Angeles Clippers forward, Blake Griffin, was involved in a scuffle at a Las Vegas night club following a preseason game against the Nuggets that they had in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Following the incident, Griffin was charged with misdemeanor battery charges and could potentially face up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. According to the court filings, Griffin is accused of committing battery on Daniel Schulman by “squeezing [Schulman’s] hand and shoulder and/or slapping him in the face.â€
The incident apparently occurred when Clippers players, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul, joined Griffin went to the TAO night club at the Venetian. Schulman apparently took a photo of Griffin which Griffin was not pleased about and then took Shulman’s phone and deleted the picture, which is where the physical contact ensued.
As for punishment from the NBA, the NBA only calls for game suspensions for felony convictions and charges and Griffin was only charged with a misdemeanor. Griffin’s first court date appearance is Dec. 8.
Doc Rivers, Clippers coach, has full confidence in Griffin as well. He stated that Griffin is more upset about being a distraction to the team and that he didn’t want that. He wanted to ensure that the team was still able to perform at their best level and continue on a great and competitive season.
“We don’t really talk about it,” Paul said. “He’s a teammate, he’s a brother and we’re always going to be there for him.”
