Hall of Famer Allen Iverson says ‘no way’ Carmelo Anthony should retire
Former All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony has seen his brief tenure with the Houston Rockets quickly come to an end earlier this week after 10 games played.
He has drawn plenty of criticism toward in terms of how things unfolded with the Rockets leading to the growing notion that he should consider retirement. However, this is something that several have pushed back on that including his former Denver Nuggets teammate and Hall of Famer Allen Iverson, according to Sham Charania of The Athletic.
“No way Melo should retire. I definitely think he should keep going. He got a lot left in the tank, man. It’s just got to be the right situation.â€
Anthony has seen his play continue to decline over the last couple of years that have put his effectiveness on the floor into question. He has struggled to take advantage of the last two teams he has played in the Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
He has shown that he still has the ability to be an asset as a scorer, but he has struggled defensively at this stage of his career while his playing style offensively hasn’t meshed well with each of the last two teams that he has played for.
This is now the stage of his career, he would have to get used to playing in a reduced role as he has shown he isn’t the player he once was. The 34-year-old should the chance to continue playing in the NBA with another team in the near future.
