Jaylen Brown Breaks Silence After Stunning Celtics Trade to 76ers
In a stunning decision, the Boston Celtics traded star guard Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster move.
The 76ers moved former All-Star forward Paul George, two first-round selections (2028, 2031) and two second-round picks (2028, 2030) in exchange for the former NBA Finals MVP.
Following the trade, Boston expressed a range of emotions after his tenure with the Celtics came to an end.
“I’m still processing how this all went down. I’m excited and disappointed at the same time,” Brown said in a statement on social media Thursday. “I earned my respect from this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment. I simply showed up every day, put my head down, and accepted every challenge.”
The writing had been on the wall for quite some time in Boston, as Brown’s standing with the team had been on shaky ground over the last few months. The uncertainty ramped up after the Celtics’ failed attempt to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, which featured the All-Star guard as the primary piece in the trade package.
Even after all that, it’s still difficult for Brown to process being traded.
“Saying goodbye isn’t easy when you’ve invested your heart into something,” Brown acknowledged. “The relationships I built here, the battles we fought together, the championship we brought to this city, and the connection I shared with the fans, I’ll carry on with me.”
Brown heads into a promising situation, with the 76ers forming an extremely talented core group alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and V.J. Edgecombe.

Philadelphia has an opportunity to become a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference that should see the team contend for an NBA title next season.
Brown is coming off arguably his best campaign, which saw him place sixth in MVP voting while earning a second-team All-NBA selection behind averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
