Kevin Durant out the rest of the season; set to miss 4-6 months
Things have gotten progressively worse for reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant with the superstar now set to miss the rest of the season. Durant’s injured foot will require season-ending surgery, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein:

Durant’s season-ending injury is a devastating blow for Oklahoma City with the team attempting to stay in the hunt for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Russell Westbrook is playing out of his mind as of late and is getting serious consideration for NBA MVP, but the consensus seems to be he won’t be able to shoulder the load on his own.
Westbrook has been a one-man show in Durant’s absence and many believed if Durant returned the Thunder would have a legitimate shot of taking down the top-seeded Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. Even the team’s best defensive player is on the shelf with Serge Ibaka recently undergoing knee surgery.
Needless to say, the Thunder are in trouble with the playoffs only a few weeks away. Not only may they miss the playoffs or get bounced in the first round against a stacked Warriors squad, but Durant’s future in Oklahoma City may be up in the air moving forward.
With Durant set to hit the free agent market in the summer of 2016, the speculation was already starting to circulate in terms of whether he’d be staying or going. Westbrook’s emergence as a legitimate MVP candidate and Durant’s recent injury issues make the situation in Oklahoma City difficult to say the least.
As of right now, all the focus is on the team making the playoffs and Durant getting healthy. Next season will be interesting for the Thunder with it not being out of the realm of possibility that the one-time NBA MVP is either dealt elsewhere or signs with another team in free agency.
