Kevin Durant shares interesting thoughts on Nikola Jokic’s injury

The Denver Nuggets are without star big man Nikola Jokic for at least a month due to a hyperextended left knee injury.

It occurred last Monday night against the Miami Heat after his teammate Spencer Jones stepped on his foot as he attempted to defend a drive by Jaime Jaquez Jr.

Houston Rockets star forward Kevin Durant chimed in on the situation, saying that he hopes Jokic doesn’t get tagged with being injury-prone.

“One thing I don’t want to see with Nikola is like, they started calling me ‘injury prone’ after that, but hopefully they don’t start with him because it’s one of those freak injuries that you can’t really control,” Durant said Thursday night via ESPN.

Durant is all too familiar with that label, as he missed two consecutive seasons due to a knee injury sustained when someone fell into his leg. Over the last three years, he has largely avoided the injury bug while maintaining an elite level of performance.

In 30 games, Durant is averaging 25.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 52.3 percent from the floor and 42.3 percent from beyond the arc. The 37-year-old has notched 20 or more points all but four times while scoring 30 or more points 11 times.

All that said, Durant is pleased to see that Jokic avoided a serious injury and will be back in a few weeks.

“So it’s good to see it’s only four weeks and it’s not anything too big,” Durant said. “It wasn’t an MCL sprain or Level 2, it felt like it was just a tweak and he’s going to be back out there soon. He’s great for the game and you want to see the best players on the floor at all times.”
