LeBron James says it was a ‘good start’ with revamped Cavs
On Sunday, the Cleveland Cavaliers debuted their new-look roster with LeBron James getting a chance to play with his new teammates for the first time. Ironically enough, the team got a look at their new roster against Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics.
Fortunately for Cleveland, LeBron and company cruised to an easy win against the Celtics on the road with the majority of their new players making an impact. Jordan Clarkson, Rodney Hood, Larry Nance Jr, and George Hill made their debuts in a Cavs uniform and impressed with LeBron singing their praises, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“It was a good start,†James said. “It’s almost like the new guys have been here.â€
James made a point of it to point out everything his new teammates did in the impressive win over the Celtics, via McMenamin.
“It started with George and his on-the-ball pressure and him just running the team,†James said of Hill, who had 12 points, three rebounds and an assist as the starting point guard. “And then the three guys came off the bench. Jordan was — he’s ready to score at any time, but his composure was great. Rodney plays with so much poise, and Larry was just controlling the perimeter, setting great pick-and-rolls. Got him a lob, got him a dunk, so it was a good start for the new guys, a good start for all of us with our revamped team so far.â€
Following the win over Boston, Cleveland is six games back of Irving’s squad in the Eastern Conference for the second seed. The Toronto Raptors are currently sitting atop the conference with a record of 39-16.
At this point, the Cavs appear to be on the right track with the influx of talent. Cleveland has a long way to go with the NBA playoffs about two months away. However, it remains to be seen what their odds to win it all will be once the postseason comes around.
