Metta World Peace agrees to play in Ice Cube’s BIG3 League; Allen Iverson set to return

With Metta World Peace currently a player development coach for the South Bay Lakers, the veteran forward hasn’t played a game in the NBA during the 2017-18 campaign. Although World Peace wasn’t able to extend his playing career in the league, he was able to find another outlet to put his basketball skills on display.

According to ESPN, World Peace, or Ron Artest as he’s named here, will join Ice Cube’s BIG3 League this summer. NBA legend Allen Iverson will also be returning to the league as a coach.

Ron Artest signed to play in the Big3 on Monday, and Allen Iverson will return as a coach, the league announced Monday.

World Peace potentially finished his NBA career where he was most successful with the Los Angeles Lakers last season. The veteran forward rarely saw the floor in a rebounding season for the storied franchise, but he was adamant about extending his playing career even if it meant not being in the NBA.

As for Allen Iverson, the former NBA MVP was a player/coach for 3’s Company in the inaugural season for the BIG3 League. Iverson, like Artest with the Lakers, rarely saw the floor for his team and it sounds like he won’t be playing at all in his second season of BIG3 basketball.

Other notable names that have confirmed they’ll be playing in the BIG3 League include Mike Bibby, Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin, and Stephen Jackson. Artest will be joining Jackson as a co-captain of Killer 3’s.

The BIG3 was considered to be a success in its first season as it gave basketball fans an outlet during the NBA offseason.
