NBA Draft prospect Ja Morant to undergo minor knee surgery
Heading into this year’s draft, former Murray State standout point guard Ja Morant is expected to be one of the top selections.
However, Morant is now in line to undergo minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee that will take around three to four weeks to fully recover, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Murray State guard Ja Morant — the projected No. 2 pick in this month’s NBA draft — will undergo a minor arthroscopic procedure on his right knee Monday, league sources told ESPN.
Morant is expected to be fully recovered in three to four weeks, sources said.
The scope is designed to remove a loose body in his knee, sources said.
Although this is a significant procedure ahead of this month’s draft, Morant has more than enough time to make a full recovery ahead of training camp and the preseason. There hasn’t been much of a concern about his long-term health, but this is something that will draw attention to as being a potential caution.
Despite that, Morant is viewed as being a potential franchise-changing talent as he’s drawn comparisons to Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook due to his explosive playmaking ability and scoring prowess.
There is a great amount of expectation that Morant will be taken second overall by the Memphis Grizzlies as the heir apparent to veteran point guard Mike Conley. The Grizzlies had attempted to move Conley prior to the trade deadline last season but were unable to work out a feasible move.
