The Minnesota Timberwolves are a team on the rise in the Western Conference. After landing Andrew Wiggins in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers two years ago and drafting Karl-Anthony Towns last year, the Timberwolves have finally started to put it together.

In this year’s NBA Draft, the Timberwolves were able to another vital piece to the puzzle in point guard Kris Dunn. The Providence product played extremely well in the Summer League leading many to believe he could threaten to be the starter next season or in the near future. This puts Ricky Rubio’s status in question with the consensus being he’ll be traded at some point in the offseason or before the NBA trade deadline in February.

According to Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, Rubio isn’t currently a part of trade talks, via ESPN’s Isaac Chipps:

With rookie Kris Dunn set to join the Minnesota Timberwolves’ crowded backcourt, questions surrounding the status of point guard Ricky Rubio continue to hang over the team.

But, according to Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, Rubio isn’t being shopped around and is likely to stay in Minnesota for the time being.

Rubio’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors for quite some time. Rubio seems to get dangled as trade bait on an annual basis with the team always looking for an upgrade at the point guard position.

If Dunn turns out to be the player the team expects him to be, Rubio’s stint in Minnesota may come to an end sooner rather than later. Rubio’s trade value isn’t as high as it used to be due to the evolution of the three-point shot in the NBA.

Although Rubio’s value is not as high as it used to be, the Timberwolves should at least see what they can get for the veteran guard.
