Nets star Cam Thomas to miss time with hamstring injury

The Brooklyn Nets will be without guard Cam Thomas for the next three to four weeks due to a left hamstring strain.

Thomas suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Nets’ win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night.

It is the same injury that the 24-year-old experienced last season that forced him to miss extended time. However, he believes it isn’t as extensive an ailment this time around.

“It’s way different,” Thomas said via the New York Post. “It’s not as bad as the last one. Dodged a bullet with that … It’s obviously frustrating being hurt with anything, but I’m not really concerned about it at all … I don’t expect to be out very long, but we’ll see how it goes. Hamstring injuries are definitely nothing to mess with.”

Thomas has been a key offensive piece for the Nets’ season as he’s second on the team with 21.4 points, sitting behind only Michael Porter Jr. (23.1).

In eight games, he has notched 20 or more points four times, including a 41-point outing against the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 26. He has made three or more 3-pointers on three occasions.

His absence places a significant offensive workload on the rest of the roster to fill the void. Porter will likely assume the brunt of the scoring to keep the Nets afloat with Thomas sidelined over the next few weeks.

Last offseason, Thomas inked a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer to remain with Brooklyn. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
