One-time NBA MVP Russell Westbrook signs with Kings
Days before the start of the 2025-26 season, nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook has secured his next NBA stop with a one-year, $3.6 million deal with the Sacramento Kings.
It marks his 18th season, which will also mark his seventh different team in his career.
Westbrook brings some much-needed depth to the Kings’ backcourt that will feature Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Dennis Schroder.
He’s coming off a productive campaign with the Denver Nuggets, where he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals while shooting 44.9 percent from the floor in 75 games with 36 starts.
Over the last few seasons, Westbrook has adjusted to a pseudo role as a bench player/starter spot that has given him plenty of value. In the last three seasons, he has been a reserve in 145 out of his 216 games while placing in the top 10 in Sixth Man of the Year voting in each campaign.
He will likely come off the bench in Sacramento, given their expected starters with LaVine and Schroder. Westbrook carries plenty of experience and stability behind his versatility as a scorer and passer.

The 36-year-old isn’t the high-impact player he once was, but he remains a steady factor when given extended playing time. He’s coming off posting a career-best 52 percent shooting on 2-pointers last season.
Westbrook has put forth an impressive career as he needs 506 points to surpass Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the highest-scoring point guard in league history. He also needs 75 assists to become only the eighth player with 10,000 career assists.
