Rockets PG Patrick Beverley set to undergo season-ending wrist surgery
The Houston Rockets suffered a major blow on Monday with the team learning about Patrick Beverley’s status moving forward. Beverley, the Rockets’ starting point guard, will miss the rest of the season after undergoing wrist surgery, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN:
Houston Rockets starting point guard Patrick Beverley will undergo season-ending wrist surgery Tuesday.
The Rockets announced Monday that Beverley needs the surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist.
Beverly suffered the injury back on March 23rd against the Indiana Pacers. The 26-year-old didn’t want to shut it down this season and got a second opinion on whether he’d require surgery. Unfortunately, surgery was needed and as a result he’ll be on the shelf for the rest of the way.
With Beverly done for the year after wrist surgery, the Rockets will turn to veteran guard Jason Terry to shoulder the load as the new starter. Nick Johnson and the recently acquired Pablo Prigioni will backup Terry off the bench.
As of right now, the Rockets have 20 to 1 odds to win the NBA title at season’s end, according to Sportsbook.ag. Los Angeles Clippers (16/1), Memphis Grizzlies (15/1), Atlanta Hawks (13/1), San Antonio Spurs (6/1), Golden State Warriors (5/2) and Cleveland Cavaliers (2/1) all sit ahead of Houston in terms of odds to win the 2015 NBA championship.
Houston is currently led by James Harden who is having an MVP-caliber season. Dwight Howard is also back on the floor after missing almost two months due to a knee injury. Although Howard is back in the mix for the Rockets, the star center is on a 20-minute restriction when he plays.
