Spurs reveal details about Gregg Popovich’s health scare
The San Antonio Spurs will be without head coach Gregg Popovich for an indefinite stretch after the team clarified as suffering a “mild stroke” on Nov. 2.
Popovich has begun the rehabilitation program and is expected to make a full recovery. He has missed the team’s last seven games, including Wednesday’s victory over the Washington Wizards.

General manager Brian Wright disclosed that Popovich is recovering well and is continuing to improve.
“It is on all of us to play our part, to play our role, to continue to lean on each other, support each other, and be there for one another. And we look forward to the day that we can welcome him back,” Wright said before Wednesday’s game via ESPN.
“But it takes a village, and we’re all committed to that. But most importantly, we’re committed to making sure that he has everything he needs and giving him the time and space to continue to recover. And we’ll look forward to getting him back.”
Popovich is the oldest coach in NBA History and is the winningest coach with 1,390 career victories. He is in his 29th season and had inked a five-year, $80 million extension, but his recent health scare could alter the situation.
In his absence, Mitch Johnson has served as the acting head coach and will remain in that role with Popovich out of the mix. Under the 37-year-old, the Spurs hold a 4-3 record, pushing the Spurs to a 6-6 mark through the first 12 games.
