Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama set to miss time
The San Antonio Spurs are set to be without star big man Victor Wembanyama for the next few weeks due to a calf strain.
Wembanyama underwent an MRI on Sunday and is expected to be reevaluated in two to three weeks.
The Spurs are handling the situation with much caution, given the sensitivity of the injury, to avoid any significant setbacks or issues.
“Obviously, we’ve seen around this league recently, the calf-tightness thing is not something you want to take lightly,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said Sunday via ESPN. “Don’t want to push it there.”
Wembanyama didn’t play Sunday’s game against the Sacramento Kings due to left calf tightness. He was seen in the locker room wearing a small sleeve on his ailing calf, but wasn’t showing any sign of discomfort.
The 21-year-old is putting up a strong start to this third campaign, averaging career-best numbers with 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while leading the NBA with 3.6 blocks per game.
He has shown further growth in his game, making him a bigger factor on both ends of the floor. He holds the chance to vie for both the MVP award and Defensive Player of the Year award.

Wembanyama’s absence will push Luke Kornet into the starting spot, as he started Sunday’s game. He finished with 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting along with three blocks in the win over the Kings.
The Spurs are off to a promising start, holding a 9-4 record that puts them in the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings.
