Steve Nash: Nets ‘can’t feel sorry’ for themselves after Kevin Durant injury

The Brooklyn Nets were dealt a tough blow this week. Kevin Durant suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee that will keep him out for four to six weeks.

As the Nets move forward without Durant for at least the next month, head coach Steve Nash voiced that the team can’t wallow in the challenging situation.

“If they get a bunch of games together, great,” Nash said before Monday’s 114-107 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers via ESPN. “If they don’t, they don’t. And we’ll be playing the cards we’re dealt so it’s a little bit out of our hands. We just have to do the best we can, we can’t cry about it, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves.

“We got to keep building, see what we can learn, how we can grow during this period of Kevin being out and Joe [Harris] being out and how we can continue to move this thing forward so when they do come back, we’re in a better place — and he can rejoin us in a place where we can feel better about where we are in that part of the season.”

The Nets are playing 11 of their next 14 games on the road. At least this will allow All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to play. His presence has been limited due to the New York mandate law regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. Brooklyn experienced plenty of success last season with Irving and James Harden, winning 16 out of their 19 games together.
