Suns hire former Cavs assistant Jordan Ott as new head coach

After doing an extensive search following the mid-season firing of head coach Mike Budenholzer, the Phoenix Suns have found their new leader on the sidelines.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Suns have decided to make Jordan Ott their new head coach.

The Phoenix Suns are hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jordan Ott as the franchise’s next head coach, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Phoenix has gone through several notable head coaches over the past few years, including Monty Williams, Frank Vogel, and, most recently, Budenholzer. The Suns have been going all-in lately in their attempts to build a title contender around Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, but have fallen short every year, prompting yet another change at head coach.

Along with Ott taking over for Budenholzer, the Suns will likely be active once again during the NBA offseason, with Durant potentially being traded elsewhere via Charania.

With their coaching hire set, the Suns now begin the franchise’s offseason of changes to the roster. The Suns will work with All-Star forward Kevin Durant and his business partner, Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman, on his next landing spot. He is expected to have a robust market of approximately four to six seriously interested teams this offseason, sources said.

It’ll be interesting to see where the Suns go from here as the NBA offseason unfolds for Phoenix. There will be no shortage of interest in Durant, meaning the Suns could get a substantial trade haul in return.
