Suns sign sharpshooter Jimmer Fredette
The Phoenix Suns are nearing the end of another campaign following well short of the playoffs.
However, the Suns have continued to make alterations to their roster that has seen them make the decision to bring aboard guard Jimmer Fredette on for the rest of the season, according to ESPN.
The Phoenix Suns have reached a deal to sign guard Jimmer Fredette, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Ian Begley on Thursday.
The two-year deal has a team option in the second year, sources said. The deal was first reported by 98.7 FM Arizona Sports.
Fredette has spent the last three years playing for the Chinese Basketball Association since last playing for the New York Knicks back in the 2015-16 season. Although he hasn’t been in the NBA in quite some time, he hasn’t stopped his pursuit of a professional basketball career.
This saw him score 75 points for the Shanghai Sharks in a loss to Beikong. He played this past season for the Sharks and has had the opportunity to sign elsewhere with their year over.
The 30-year-old had originally been the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, where he was traded to the Sacramento Kings after earning the
2011 Naismith College Player of the Year at BYU. In his five seasons in the league, he has averaged 6.0 points and 1.4 assists per game.
This could be an opportunity to latch onto the Suns or possibly showcase himself to earn a chance to sign with another team if Phoenix elects not to pick up the option for next year.
