Warriors may have made a move to setup a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade
The 2021 NBA free agency period is one that every team in the league is waiting for with superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo set to become a free agent.
Although many anticipated Giannis to simply re-sign with the Bucks on a lucrative long-term deal, teams around the NBA are already preparing to make a move for arguably the best all-around player in the league today. Along with elite teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors expected to make a run at the perennial All-Star, the Golden State Warriors may have recently made a move to make it easier for them to trade for Antetokounmpo before he hits free agency.
According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Warriors’ last trade to acquire Andrew Wiggins and a first-round pick may have been a precursor to a potential blockbuster deal with the Bucks for the superstar.
Some around the league believe the Golden State Warriors acquired a first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with Andrew Wiggins, with the notion of a potential future trade with the Bucks.
Obviously, there’s the rest of this season and the next for the Bucks with Antetokounmpo under contract. This means anything can happen during that time, including the Greek Freak winning one or two titles in Milwaukee.
As of right now, the Bucks are the top team in the league with a record of 49-8. They are on pace to win 70 games this season and are the biggest threat to the Lakers and L.A. Clippers in terms of winning the team this season.
With that being said, Milwaukee is in a great position to re-sign Giannis when the time comes meaning any move made by other teams might ultimately be futile.
