Warriors still don’t know when Kevin Durant will return to action
Since Kevin Durant suffered a mild calf strain, the Golden State Warriors have been hesitant to put an exact return date from the injury.
The Warriors have since re-evaluated him earlier this week, to which he has already been declared out for Games 3 and 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers. Head coach Steve Kerr has further left that door open as he has voiced that the team is still not putting a time frame on Durant’s return to the court in the playoffs, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.
“The right way to put it would be, with a calf injury, there’s kind of a wide range of how long a guy’s going to be out, and so he’s had them in the past where he was out a week or 10 days but right from the beginning, [Warriors director of sports medicine and performance] Rick [Celebrini] was telling me that you really can’t put a number of days or weeks on this,” Kerr said.
There has already been some early speculation that Durant could miss the rest of the Western Conference. This may further be fueled if the Warriors continue to win without him as they are up 2-0 in the series.
Golden State doesn’t want to press him into action too early as reinjury would eliminate any chance he is able to play at all in the postseason from that point on. The fact that they are two wins away from the NBA Finals, it doesn’t put any pressure on him to be back on the court sooner than he has to be.
This is a situation that the Warriors will continue to monitor closely as he will be re-evaluated once again next week.
