Warriors superstar Kevin Durant claims there’s ‘no such thing as loyalty’
One-time NBA MVP Kevin Durant is playing in his second season with the Golden State Warriors, and everything seems to be going to plan with the superstar now an NBA champion with potentially many more rings to be won in the Bay Area.
Along with cementing his legacy as an NBA champion, Durant rubbed a lot of people the wrong way by leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for Oakland. It was perceived that Durant wasn’t loyal to the team that drafted him and that he took the easy way out to win his first title.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Durant made some interesting comments about loyalty which may continue to irk Thunder fans.
“Ain’t no such thing [as loyalty],” he says. “You see disloyalty in different ways, but that’s one of the most underrated parts of the game. We scream loyalty, but we don’t expect it from the people writing the checks because they’re writing the checks. [People say] ‘You should be fine with it because you’re getting paid.’ I liked it better when I was naive about the NBA business, how f–ked up it is. That was better for me that way. … You put money and business into something that’s pure, it’s going to f–k it up.”
Although Durant makes a lot of sense with his comments as money corrupts most things in life in terms of remaining pure, the perennial All-Star will likely continue to receive criticism for his remarks from avid Thunder fans as well as those in the media and former players with an old-school mentality.
As Durant becomes more and more bold with his comments to the media, the Warriors have been able to turn things around after a disappointing start to the title defense. Golden State is now in second place in the Western Conference behind the Houston Rockets (12-4) with an 11-4 record.
