Rutgers vs Temple; Battle for Big East Lead

There are a lot of big games this Saturday in college football. The South Carolina Gamecocks are at the Florida Gators in a big SEC East battle.  The Florida State Seminoles take on the Miami Hurricanes in a big ACC match-up. And here’s on you might be overlooking but could go a long way toward deciding a BCS bowl bid, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are at the Temple Owls.

The Rutgers Temple game is a battle for the Big East lead. Rutgers comes in at 3-0 in the Big East while Temple is 2-0. Betonline has Rutgers -4.5 -110 or -190. Temple is +4.5 -110 or + 165. Over/under on the game is 41.5.

This is probably not the game you thought would decide the Big East at the start of the season, and it still may not be, both Louisville and Cincinnati are still unbeaten too.  But this could very well be the game by the time the season is over that we look back on and remember. Temple is 3-2 overall. Their losses were to Maryland and Penn State and neither were blowouts. They’ve come a long way from the program that the Big East once kicked out because they weren’t cutting it. Rutgers is the first of a big four game stretch for the Owls. Afterwards they play Pittsburgh and Louisville on the road and then host Cincinnati. If the Owls can get 3 of those 4, they will be in good shape.

Rutgers has a 6-0 record including a win over Arkansas that looks better now than it did a couple of weeks ago. After Temple they play Kent State and Army. So a win here and they are probably going to be 9-0 going into the last three games. Those last three are going to be tough ones as they play Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Louisville. Cincinnati is at Louisville next Friday night. We are going to go with Temple +4.5.

Florida State is -21 -115 or -1300. Miami is +21 -105 +900. That’s an awfully big spread for a Florida State Miami game. I can’t recall one being that one-sided in a long time. Florida State beat Miami 45-17 the last time the two played in Miami. The last lopsided win before that was 2001 when the Hurricanes won by 22. The ‘Canes have been blown out by two top ten opponents this year, Kansas State and Notre Dame. But this is a rivalry game. And you know what they say about rivalry games. Throw out the records. We’ll take Miami +21.

The “Spurrier Bowl” renews in Gainesville in a huge game. Florida comes in undefeated at 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the SEC. South Carolina comes in after suffering their first loss of the year a week ago to LSU 23-21 in Baton Rouge.  They come into the game at 6-1, 4-1. South Carolina is +3.5 -110 or +155. Florida is -3.5 -110 or -170. The Gamecocks come into the game a bit banged up. Stars Jadaveon Clowney and Marcus Lattimore will likely play, but how effective they’ll be remains a big question mark. If the Gamecocks don’t play better against the run than they did last week, Florida will run over them. Take the Gators -3.5.
