NCAAF: Very Early Heisman Odds Update
While we are still a long way away from the start of a new NCAA football season, betting sites like Bovada have opened up early betting on who will win the Heisman in the 2013-14 season. Here is a quick rundown of the front runners for this coveted award.
Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M
Odds:Â 4/1
Being a quarterback automatically increases your odds of grabbing the Heisman. Being an awesome quarterback increases them even more.
Johnny Manziel is a truly an elite quarterback who will likely make a splash in the NFL when his time comes, but for now he is going to stay at Texas A&M where is team will likely be legit contenders to winning an NCAA Championship under his guidance.
Manziel was impressive last season, leading his team to an upset victory over Alabama and dominating Oklahoma on a national stage during the cotton bowl. Manziel’s stats are also impressive with a completion percentage near 70 percent and an overall QB ranking of 155. He passed for 3,706 yards last season. These number will likely do nothing but improve next season. Combine this with the fact that he plays on a team that is going to garner a lot of national attention and that is why he has the best odds of taking the Heisman Trophy next season.
Braxton Miller, QB Ohio State      Â
Like Manziel, being a quarterback never hurts your chances for winning the Heisman. Unlike Manziel, Braxton Miller represents a new breed of quarterbacks.
He can pass the ball and he proved it all last season. He completed 148 of his 254 passes for a 58.3 percent completion percentage, he throw 15 touchdowns and averaged 275 yards of total defense per game. His big stat however is he rused for 1,271 yards and got 13 touchdowns.
The best part is Miller is still very young and constantly improving. His numbers should easily top last year and if he can lead Ohio State to the national stage his odds could increase past Manziel’s as the season eventually progresses.
Marquis Lee, WR USC
Odds:Â 9/1
Not many people may have been paying attention to Marquis Lee outside of the USC fan base. With much of the national attention on the Trojans spotty win-loss record last season and most of our eyes focused on Matt Barkley, Lee’s 1721 yard season flew a bit under the radar. However, if any nonquarter back is going to take the Heisman many believe that Lee is the best bet.
