2020 NFL Draft: 5 teams most likely to trade up for quarterbacks

5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are slotted to pick sixth-overall, but there’s reason to believe they could move into the top three. It’s no secret the Cincinnati Bengals will take Joe Burrow, and the Washington Redskins will follow up with Chase Young. After that, the Detroit Lions and New York Giants are wide open for trades. If general manager Tom Telesco desperately wants Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert, he may have to package picks and move up.

4. New England Patriots

New England is picking 23rd and will potentially be well out of range for Tagovailoa or Herbert, perhaps being left with Jordan Love and Jacob Eason as two viable choices. However, if Bill Belichick has his eyes set on the stars from Alabama and Oregon, he may believe getting into the top 10 is essential. The Patriots will have a hard time doing that without a second-round pick, but never count out Belichick … especially when he’s looking at Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

3. Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard traded his first-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. However, he still has the 34th and 44th-overall choices in the draft and could package them — among other capital — to move up. With Jacoby Brissett and Philip Rivers both slated for free agency next offseason, it makes sense for the Colts to find their long-term answer under center.

2. New Orleans Saints

The Saints realize their reality. Drew Brees is 41 years old and likely playing his final season before heading to NBC. If New Orleans thinks Taysom Hill is truly the answer, than maybe this is a wasted paragraph. However, there is literally zero evidence to believe Hill can play quarterback at this level save for a nice throw here and there in special packages. The Saints pick 24th, and could decide to get up into the top dozen if Herbert or Tagovailoa begins to fall.

1. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are the easy choice here. They are loaded to the hilt with 14 picks, the most of any team this year. They also have a clear need at quarterback. Despite drafting fifth-overall, Miami might need to make a move to No. 3 with the Lions. If that’s the case, the Dolphins can outbid anybody to make said move. With both the need and the cache of draft capital to get up the board, it’s clear Miami has the most cards to play.
