49ers GM John Lynch clears air on Brandon Aiyuk situation
Over the last couple of months, the San Francisco 49ers have dealt with internal issues regarding star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
The lack of traction toward a significant contract with the All-Pro wideout has led to lingering chatter that the team could move him. Despite that, the 49ers appear to have no desire to move Aiyuk or Pro Bowler Deebo Samuel.
Instead, Aiyuk reached out to general manager John Lynch to voice his pleasure about the selection of Florida receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st overall pick on Thursday night.
According to Lynch via ESPN, “Fire pick, I can’t lie,” Aiyuk’s message said.

That aside, the 49ers are faced with Aiyuk sitting without a new deal. he is in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, which leaves uncertainty around his long-term future in San Francisco.
The 49ers have expressed in re-signing the Arizona State product, but that hasn’t moved toward a new deal. Meanwhile, Samuel has had talk about his availability arise since the start of the offseason, but that hasn’t gained any significant traction.

Lynch addressed that elephant in the room by airing that the 49ers want to keep their two star wideouts in the mix.
“I know that we’re continuing to have positive talks with [Aiyuk] and we are really efforting to get something done with him,” Lynch said. “We’re excited about continuing down that path and Brandon being a part of this team.
“Deebo is a part of this team and a big part of this team. We feel great about that group and we feel like we just made it better with another really good addition to it, who complements the group real well.”
Ultimately, time will tell what lies ahead.
