49ers GM John Lynch says it ‘makes too much sense’ for Jimmy Garoppolo to sign with the team
The San Francisco 49ers have found their franchise quarterback. Once Jimmy Garoppolo was named the starter and was consistently able to show what he was capable of, it became clear the team had found their guy under center for the foreseeable future.
With Garoppolo proving his worth, the question now is whether they can sign him to a long-term deal. Plenty of teams around the NFL with a need at quarterback will express interest in the rising star, but 49ers general manager John Lynch appears determined to lock him down, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports.
“He was a great addition to our team – kind of a game-changer,†Lynch said. “When you find the right guy at that position, it’s really good for your franchise. We believe we found the right guy.
“Now the challenge is getting Jimmy signed. We’re working hard toward that. We’ll see. I think he wants to be with us, and we want him there. It makes too much sense for it not to happen. It’s just a matter of getting it done.â€
All signs point to the 49ers and Garoppolo coming to terms on a long-term deal eventually. Garoppolo’s impact on the team was made abundantly clear as he led the team to five straight wins as a starter to finish out the season.
Although the team finished without a playoff berth, San Francisco is trending in the right direction with Garoppolo under center. Lynch will do everything within his power to secure the long-term future of their star quarterback as the future is much brighter with him in a 49ers uniform.
If the 49ers can sign him to a long-term deal, the odds will almost certainly change with San Francisco potentially being a threat to be playoff bound next season.
