49ers star Jimmy Garoppolo won’t know where he’s at ‘until the bullets start flying’
Throughout much of the offseason, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has continued his progression in his recovery from a torn ACL.
Garoppolo has moved his way toward finally competing once in an 11-11 drill this week. Despite consistent steps forward, he has maintained that he won’t truly know where he’s at physically until he takes on contact on the field, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
“I think all of that will come with time,” Garoppolo said. “I’ll try to implement as many drills as I can during these 40 days or so. But, I think once until the bullets start flying and everything, then we’ll really see.”
There has been nothing but forward momentum with this recovery, but Garoppolo hasn’t rushed the process by any means. It was an injury that forced him to cut his first full season with the 49ers short. It is one that must see him take the proper handing in order to avoid any setbacks or possibly additional injuries.
San Francisco has also given him a lucrative contract that speaks to their tremendous faith in him to be their franchise cornerstone at the position. This should see the 49ers hed forward on the side of caution so that he will be ready to go well ahead of the start of the season.
In the meantime, progress like this is promising as to where he has reached at this point of his recovery. The next couple of months will be telling about what his availability will be to start the 2019 campaign.
