NFL MVP: 5 value bets for the 2021 season

Which bets provide the best value on the 2021 NFL MVP? Here are five guys to consider laying some cash on.

5. Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints (100/1)

About once per decade, a running back takes home the award. Of course, if Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans didn’t do it the last two years, it’s a tough road for guys like Kamara. Still, he’s the kind of do-it-all back who could propel the Saints to a playoff spot, and if he has something like 2,000 scrimmage yards, it’s enough to get him into the conversation. At these odds, it’s worth plopping down $20.

4. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs (4/1)

Yes, Mahomes is both the favorite and one of our best values. The Chiefs loaded up this offseason on the offensive line. They drafted guard Trey Smith and center Creed Humphrey, both who are likely to start. They also traded for two-time Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown Jr. and signed guard Joe Thuney to a record-setting deal. All told, Mahomes is going to have time to find Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. It should be a huge year for the wunderkind.

3. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers (80/1)

Garoppolo is a very intriguing bet at this price. The 49ers are going to be much better provided they can stay healthy. If San Francisco wins 12 or 13 games and the former Eastern Illinois star plays really well, he’s going to be in the running. Additionally, Garoppolo could have a year where. he only throws for 3,700 yards but gets a bunch of cheap throwing touchdowns to pad his stats. On a great team, it could be enough.

2. Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals (20/1)

Staying in the NFC West, the Cardinals are flying a bit under the radar. However, Murray improved from his rookie season and was a legit star in 2020, even with his teammates somewhat cratering around him in the second half of the season. The former No. 1 overall pick and Heisman Trophy winner went for 3,971 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Factoring in an extra game and more improvement, is it crazy to see a line like 4,500/35/15? That’s MVP territory.

1. Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns (33/1)

Mayfield is a great bet for NFL MVP. The Browns are really good, head coach Kevin Stefanski’s system should be firmly entrenched in Mayfield’s mind, and Odell Beckham Jr. is back. Cleveland is also going to be one of the league’s best and biggest narratives, and while the MVP is decided on the field to some degree, it’s also about stories. Mayfield could be great in both regards.
